The berry-floral character is clearly evident in the aroma of the wine. The bouquet also showcases many hints of toast and ripe fruit, a result of the warmer season and barrel aging. The taste of the wine captivates with its soft and velvety texture, juicy fruit core and polished tannins. The finish is dry and surprisingly more austere, with hints of dark walnut. “Catena” is the main line of wines from Catena Zapata, which includes single-varietal wines made from grapes collected from different vineyards of the Catena family. All vineyards are divided into plots from which the grapes are harvested as they ripen at different times and fermented separately. In the final blend, wine from different areas is combined to create the “Catena” label. By composing a blend of ingredients from different areas with different terroirs, Catena Zapata winemakers strive to create a balanced and expressive wine. The wines of the “Catena” line are ready to drink almost immediately after bottling, and they also develop well over 10-12 years.
