Description
Château Canon Chaigneau “Cuvée 8a” Lalande-de-Pomerol is a calm, confident Bordeaux wine with character. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, approaching full-bodied: round, composed, without being overpowering. The fruit profile is clean and mature, with fine, neat tannins well integrated into the structure. The balance between acidity, alcohol, and fruit is precise. The finish is long and dry, with pleasant spicy and earthy nuances. The aroma initially reveals ripe mulberry and dark berries, followed by notes of olives, walnuts, mushrooms, and dried thyme—the aroma is complex but not heavy. The color is deep, dark ruby, with garnet highlights around the rim of the glass. The wine pairs beautifully with meat—beef, duck, game, roast poultry—and complements aged and semi-hard cheeses well. The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec provides both softness and structure. The wine was fermented and aged in concrete for 12 months, without oak, resulting in a pure, vanilla-free, burnt flavor. This is a successful experiment by winemaker Thierry Garneau, focused on gastronomy and elegance rather than power.
